Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 16, 2025

This Privacy Policy describes how Platelytics ("we," "our," "us") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Platelytics platform ("Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve the Service.

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information (e.g., email and password, if required for login)
  • Uploaded images or video containing publicly visible license plates
  • Plate text submitted via API or UI
  • User-generated tags or notes (subject to the TOS)
  • Support messages or inquiries

1.2 Automatically Collected Information

We collect basic technical data for security and performance:

  • IP address, browser type, device type
  • Timestamps of access
  • Error logs and diagnostic data
  • Usage metrics (e.g., number of uploaded events, API calls)

We do not collect:

  • biometric identifiers
  • GPS or precise location from your device
  • data from government or DMV records

2. How We Use Information

We use collected data to:

  • Provide and maintain the Service
  • Process images and extract license plate text
  • Store and display analytics, trends, vehicle events, and tag data
  • Improve features and system performance
  • Secure the platform and detect abuse
  • Provide user support

We do not:

  • sell your data
  • share your data with third parties for marketing
  • attempt to connect license plates to individuals
  • use government or DMV identity databases

3. User-Generated Tags & Notes

Users may label or categorize plates for personal organizational use.

We enforce the following rules:

  • Tags may not include personally identifiable information (names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.)
  • Tags may not include protected-class characteristics
  • Tags may not be used to identify individuals

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these rules.

4. Legal Basis (U.S.-Focused)

Because we operate with publicly visible, non-PII license plate data and do not link it to individuals, the Service generally falls under "general personal data" in U.S. privacy frameworks.

Where applicable (CCPA/CPRA, Colorado CPA, Virginia CDPA), you have rights regarding:

  • access
  • correction
  • deletion
  • opting out of data sharing (not applicable since we don’t share)

These rights apply only to data associated with your account, not to plate numbers observed in public.

5. Data Retention

We retain data only as long as necessary to operate the Service.

  • You may configure your own retention settings, if supported.
  • We may automatically delete older images, events, or analytics to manage storage.
  • Deleted data may not be recoverable.
  • We do not retain data longer than necessary for your use of the Service or for legitimate security, auditing, or debugging needs.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data.

We may share data only with:

  • trusted infrastructure providers (cloud storage, compute, database hosting) strictly for operating the Service
  • law enforcement, only if required by a lawful subpoena, warrant, or court order
  • service vendors under contract who assist with analytics or error reporting

These services never gain ownership of your data.

7. Security Measures

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data, including:

  • encrypted data transfer (HTTPS/TLS)
  • access controls and authentication
  • audit logs
  • intrusion detection
  • secure deletion of data when removed
  • least-privilege internal access

However, no system can guarantee perfect security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your state, you may have rights to:

  • access data associated with your account
  • request deletion of your account
  • request correction of inaccurate information
  • opt out of data sale or profiling (we do neither)
  • receive information about how your data is used

To exercise these rights, contact us at platelytics@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to external websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

If we make material changes, we will notify users by email or on the website. Your continued use of the Service after updates indicates acceptance.
