- license plate text extraction
- vehicle-event logs and analytics
- tagging or labeling of observed plates
The Service is intended only for lawful personal or business property-monitoring purposes.
2. User Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use the Service only for lawful purposes.
- Ensure any images or video you upload are captured from areas where you are legally allowed to record.
- Maintain your own compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding surveillance, privacy, and data retention.
- Keep your account credentials confidential.
- Not attempt to access or interfere with data belonging to other users.
3. Prohibited Uses
You may not use the Service to:
3.1 Identify Individuals
You may not attach, upload, enter, or infer:
- names
- addresses
- phone numbers
- dates of birth
- government IDs
- employer information
- any other personally identifiable information (PII)
3.2 Collect or Tag Protected Characteristics
You may not attach or infer data relating to:
- race or ethnicity
- religion
- gender or sexual orientation
- health information
- disability
- political affiliation
3.3 Stalking, Harassment, or Surveillance of Individuals
Examples include:
- tracking someone without their consent
- monitoring an ex-partner
- hostile "pattern of life" tracking
- aiding or engaging in harassment
3.4 Access Government or DMV Records
The platform cannot be used to access, match against, or infer records protected under the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA).
3.5 Sell or Share Data
You may not use the Service to sell, trade, or redistribute plate data, tags, or analytics.
Any violation of these terms may result in immediate account suspension.
4. User-Generated Tags
Users may assign internal tags or labels to license plates for organizational purposes (e.g., "delivery truck," "visitor," "frequent passerby").
You agree that:
- Tags must not include PII or protected-class characteristics.
- Tags must not be used to identify or profile individuals.
- Tags are your responsibility, and we may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms.
5. Data Retention
We may implement automatic retention limits (e.g., fixed storage windows) or allow you to configure your own retention settings. We reserve the right to delete old or inactive data to maintain system stability.
6. Data Ownership
You retain ownership of:
- images you upload
- tags or labels you create
- analytical data derived from your uploads
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and transmit your data as necessary to operate the Service.
7. Privacy & Security
You acknowledge that:
- license plates are publicly observable information
- you are responsible for complying with all local surveillance laws
- you must not upload private or confidential information
- although we take reasonable measures, no system is perfectly secure
A separate Privacy Policy governs how we collect and process personal data.
8. Service Availability
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time.
We are not liable for:
- outages
- data loss
- service interruptions
- third-party provider failures (including storage or compute vendors)
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Platelytics, its employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, liabilities, or legal fees arising from:
- your misuse of the Service
- your uploaded images or tags
- violations of surveillance or privacy laws
- improper identification of individuals
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- the Service is provided "as is" without warranties
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid in the last 12 months (or $50 if unpaid)
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time for:
- violations of these Terms
- suspected unlawful activity
- security or operational reasons
You may stop using the Service at any time.
12. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
